Privacy Policy

1. Information We Collect

When you sign in, we collect your email address and display name from your chosen authentication provider (Google or Apple). We also store titles you rate, save to your library, or mark as watched — this data is tied to your account and used solely to power the Waitched experience.

We do not collect payment information, precise location data, or browsing history outside of the service.

2. How We Use Your Data

Your library and ratings are used to generate personalized AI recommendations, display your viewing history, and improve our recommendation models. We may aggregate anonymized usage statistics to improve the service, but we never sell your personal information to third parties.

3. Third-Party Services

Waitched uses TMDB (The Movie Database) for movie and TV metadata. Your searches and requests for titles are forwarded to TMDB's API. TMDB's privacy policy governs how they handle that data.

Authentication is handled by Google and Apple. We never receive or store your password.

4. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all associated data — including your library, ratings, and preferences — is permanently and immediately erased.

5. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal data. Under the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), this includes the right to access, rectify, export (data portability), and erase your data (right to erasure, Art. 17). Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and CPRA, you have the right to know, delete, and correct your personal information. Other North American jurisdictions provide comparable rights.

You can exercise these rights yourself, right now, from Preferences → Account & data:

• Export your library as CSV, JSON, or Excel (data portability).
• Delete my library data — remove your titles, ratings, and saved items while keeping your account.
• Delete my account and all data — permanently erase your account and everything tied to it, immediately and irreversibly.

Deletion is performed immediately on confirmation ("without undue delay"). If you are unable to sign in or prefer to submit your request in writing, email [email protected] and we will assist you.

6. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or a notice on the site. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
